Surveying Technologist

WATT Consulting Group (WATT) is seeking a Surveying Technologist to join our team in our Calgary office. We are looking for a dynamic individual who is committed to high-quality professional work, meeting the needs of our clients, and working with our multi disciplinary team to create vibrant and livable communities.

About the Role:

As a Surveying Technologist in the Calgary Branch Office, you will be responsible for delivering survey projects to our clients. You will report directly to the Office Resource Manager – Geomatics.  You will be expected to perform a wide variety of field functions such as legal/construction surveys as well as office functions including drafting, design, and computations in support of all day-to-day projects conducted in and around Calgary. You will also be expected to perform a variety of office tasks in support of projects being done from our Calgary and Edmonton offices.

Qualifications:

  • Candidates should possess a minimum of a two-year Technical Diploma or a university degree in a relevant discipline (i.e., surveying, geomatics, civil engineering) and have five (5) years’ experience in the surveying/engineering industry.
  • The successful candidate will have experience with office computations and drafting in both legal and construction survey.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of surveying and engineering principles is required.
  • Specific experience in Civil 3D is essential (Microsurvey experience considered an asset).
  • Familiarity and understanding of the principles of surveying and mapping.
  • Will possess an excellent understanding of the coordination between field survey, office computations and drafting.
  • Candidates must demonstrate a high level of understanding of engineering survey practices and municipal standards.
  • A solid understanding of the principles of coordinate systems and mapping projections.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist surveying engineers, Alberta Land Surveyors or Saskatchewan Land Surveyors to develop methods and procedures for conducting field surveys.
  • Adhere to workplace safety in accordance with OH&S legislation and Corporate Policies.
  • Data preparation for construction survey lay-out.
  • Adhere to workplace safety in accordance with OH&S legislation and Corporate Policies.
  • Act as technical consultant to the Professional Surveyors in survey and design considerations.
  • Be prepared to conduct field surveys and operate conventional and GPS survey instruments and computer equipment to measure distance, angles, and elevations.
  • Understand related Municipal Standards and Regulations.
  • Understand related Professional Acts and Regulations.
