Senior Geomatics Technologist

As a Senior Geomatics Technologist in the Calgary Office, you will be responsible for supporting projects and project managers in both the Construction and Geomatics departments.  You will report to the Calgary Office Resource Manager in the Geomatics department and will be expected to liaise directly with the project managers and field staff involved with the projects you are assigned.  You will be involved in a wide variety of legal and construction functions including drafting, data processing and management, and computations in support of day-to-day projects across all our Alberta offices.


  • Must have a university degree or technical diploma in a relevant discipline (e.g., surveying/geomatics engineering, surveying technology, civil engineering technology) and
  • 5 years of related experience in a geomatics or construction survey field (experience with plot plans, and construction layout(civil/municipal) considered an asset).
  • Comprehensive knowledge of surveying and engineering principles is required.
  • Specific experience in AutoCAD and MicroSurvey is essential (Leica Cyclone and UAV data processing experience considered an asset).
  • Must have a functional understanding of the principles of legal surveying and cadastral mapping, how they relate to the Torrens Land Registry System and how they are applied in the interpretation of certificates of titles and encumbrances.
  • Possess an excellent understanding of the coordination between field survey, office computations and drafting and the importance of accurate and correct information.
  • Possess a solid understanding of the principles of coordinate systems and mapping.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Main functions of senior geomatics technologists include:
  • Drafting and checking topographic, legal, and construction plans.
  • Assist construction project managers with setup, and field return checks/analysis.
  • Maintain technical competence in all related software platforms – you will be expected to perform drafting and analysis tasks in Civil 3D, MicroSurvey, and possibly Carlson, as well as data prep and analysis in TBC.
  • Provide leadership and assistance to the other staff within the Division.
  • In addition to the main functions listed above, you may be tasked with the below responsibilities as required:
  • Provide calculations and quality control – pre- and post-stake checks, grade sheet reviews, data and file management and backups.
  • Perform office computations/field preparation as required.
  • Maintain procedures and productivity, as well as assist the Construction Survey Manager in addressing performance, production, and training issues.
