Intermediate/Senior Geotechnical Engineer

Our Opportunity

WATT is looking for an intermediate to senior Geotechnical Engineer for our Calgary Office to provide leadership and technical expertise to our growing team.


  • 5-10 years of related experience in Geotechnical Engineering (local project experience in soil conditions is preferable).
  • Registered (or eligible for registration) as a Professional Engineer with the Association of Professional. Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta (APEGA).
  • Experience with nuclear densometer and all associated safety training.
  • Familiarity with testing and inspection procedures (CCIL, ASTM, CSA).


  • Planning, conducting, and supervising geotechnical investigations and construction monitoring.
  • On-site troubleshooting or geotechnical challenges during construction.
  • Practical solution orientated for related geotechnical challenges.
  • Providing leadership to team of field technicians and reviewing daily field reports.
  • Coordinating and scheduling field technicians for multiple construction sites.
  • Observing and monitoring the execution of subsurface investigations and testing programs appropriate for design and construction of infrastructure projects.
  • Conducting technical analyses/calculations for slopes, shallow and deep foundations.
  • Preparing borehole logs, field reports, and assisting with the preparation of reports and recommendations, plans and specifications.
  • Preparing proposals, budgeting and scheduling of technical field staff.
  • Project Management including accountability for project financial results.
  • Communicating with clients and sub-consultants and internal stakeholders.
  • Participating and showing commitment to WATT’s health and safety program.
  • Participating in professional committees, publications and conferences that align with your career goals and interest.
