WATT Consulting Group is proud to be part of the multi-disciplinary team involved with the National Music Centre (NMC). This project provided an opportunity for Engineering, Transportation and Geomatics to plan, design, and build while dealing with the special considerations concerned with this incredible facility.
WATT was involved in supporting the Conceptual Plan, Development Permit and completing the Development Site Servicing Plan which presented unique challenges to the team due to the particular servicing factors of the downtown location of the NMC. City of Calgary requirements also meant meeting Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) standards while dealing with the issue of the density of utilities within the street location. The lack of surrounding space on the site saw the solution develop into a need to construct reservoirs for storm water storage that supplies irrigation water for landscaping on street level as well as for the green roofs.
The Geomatics division assisted in maintaining the historical context of the King Edward Hotel that the NMC is now housed in through an innovative use of our scanning equipment so the old façade could be recreated. Our Transportation Division also supported the project related to the traffic generated, impact on existing road networks, entry to the underground parkade location, as well as planning for the anticipated bus traffic that will bring students to view the site.
