Mike Skene has been a traffic engineer for over 30 years and is a senior member of Watt’s leadership team. Prior to his time at Watt, Mike worked in municipal government for over 25 years, gaining extensive knowledge in transportation planning and engineering. He has supplemented this knowledge with a high degree of skill in working with community associations, municipal councils and with the development industry. His experiences have included land-use planning, public legislation, public processes and economic development. In addition to his transportation expertise, he has also been successful in Economic Development and Public Administration roles.
Mike is one of the leading experts in North America in “Traffic Calming” and bikeway design and has a solid background in state-of-the-art traffic safety. He has written and presented papers on traffic safety, traffic calming, community processes, the integration of transportation and land use and sustainable transportation strategies. He has extensive experience developing safe and sustainable transportation strategies including strategies for parking, transit, pedestrians, and cycling, for both public and private sector clients.
In his spare time, Mike enjoys the outdoors. He is also actively involved in the community where he currently volunteers on a number of not for profit boards including the Chemainus Theatre and the Se’Shen Youth Development Society, a First Nations youth program.
